Skype counselling and psychotherapy is the same as traditional face-to-face therapy, but instead of attending a practise the session takes place online via a secure video. The use of Skype allows for clients to be in the comfort of their own choice of setting and can be particularly beneficial for those who may find it difficult to attend face-to-face counselling in person. Client confidentiality is just as important as personal face-to-face therapy and so clients can be assured that Skype sessions will be conducted in a private room.

Why individuals may choose Skype counselling rather than face-to-face counselling:

• Anxious and paranoid feelings are less likely

• Clients often feel more comfortable in their own environment, and research has shown this to help with speaking more openly during sessions

• Clients save time and money by not having to travel to therapy sessions

• You don’t have to miss a session if you are away from home

• Those individuals who are house-bound due to illness are still able to access therapy

• Easier to fit in around work commitments and childcare

• Some may find leaving the home emotionally challenging and so part of Skype therapy may be to work towards face-to-face counselling

• Some individual feel more comfortable working with a therapist who is not local to them

Skype is free to download and use. You will need to ensure that you have a web camera and microphone to be able to use this.

A free 15 minute consultation is offered prior to starting Skype therapy in order to ensure that all software is working and you are comfortable with the process of online therapy.
